Clozapine Dispensing

Clozapine is an antipsychotic medication used to treat and manage the symptoms of Schizophrenia. It is used for those who have not responded adequately to previous antipsychotic medications, or who have struggled with side effects associated with these.

One of the key needs during Clozapine treatment is monitoring of your white blood cells (neutrophils). For the initial stages of treatment, weekly blood tests are required. Over time, the interval of these tests is generally able to be reduced. Agranulocytosis is a condition that is associated with clozapine treatment, where the levels of neutrophils in your blood drop to levels that increase your risk of picking up infections.

Our pharmacists have undergone extra training in order to effectively monitor and respond to changes in the neutrophil count of our clozapine patients. We actively respond to unexpected changes in blood test results, in order to maintain the health and safety of these individuals.
